The Pagosa Springs Rotary Club Supports the Village Aid Project - Engineers Without Borders at Fort Lewis College

Megan Guerrero spoke to us last week about the Village Aid Project. This service group which is a part of Engineers without Borders, is doing some amazing work. The following is an excerpt from their website which you can access by clicking   http://www.fortlewis.edu/villageaidproject/SupportEWB.aspx  We enjoyed Megan's enthusiasm and it was evident how much this work means to her and her fellow students.  The proverbial hat was passed and $212 was raised for their efforts.

A messsage from Don May - Director of the Village Aid Project (EWB) at Fort Lewis College.

Helping people takes money. It's as simple as that and we have been blessed with wonderful supporters. Thanks to all of you who have made our work possible by donating to the Village Aid Project (EWB) at Fort Lewis College.

How do we spend your money? Well, very carefully. We are an all-volunteer organization. We pay no salaries and no overhead (rent, vehicles, etc.) 99% of your donation goes to direct project expenses like pipe, concrete, and all the other materials needed to build a water system for a village. Students raise the money for their own expenses so your donations are not paying for student travel.

WHO? We are a group of volunteer faculty members, students and community partners who share the belief that everyone in the world has certain basic rights such as a right to safety, a right to the resources needed to feed and care for their family, a right to clean water and others. We believe that it is important for us to use our gifts to help others realize these rights.

WHAT? "When the well is dry, we know the worth of water", Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richards Almanac 1746

Water is the common denominator of need for all people. We can't live without it. The lack of accessible, potable water impacts the health and economic structure of every society. We have chosen to focus our efforts on providing improved water and sanitation to needy communities.

WHERE? We have worked in rural villages in Thailand, Laos, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Myanmar.
