Engagement!

President Rob Foster’s theme for the year.

Important Announcement

Coyote Moon is closed for vacation. Next week, we will meet at Ramon’s (56 Talisman Drive).

President of the Day

Pat Lewis served as our president while Rob Foster travels. She did a fine job, especially inviting Cindi Galabota and Jann Pitcher to lead us in singing “YMCA.” It got the meeting off to a fun start.

Rotarian of the Day

Shellie Peterson's inspiration is from this month's Rotary Magazine

IN MEMORIAM

An inspiration to all: Bill Boyd, 1933-2025

Rotary International Past President Bill Boyd, who was a Rotary member for over five decades, died 22 January at age 91.

Boyd, a member of the Rotary Club of Pakuranga in Auckland, New Zealand, served as Rotary’s president in 2006-07. The theme he chose for that year asked Rotary members to Lead the Way in improving their communities.

"We are the ones who ask, Why not us?" Boyd said in the president’s message in the July 2006 issue of this magazine. "We are the ones with the skills and the desires to build a better future. And we are the ones who must Lead the Way."

In that message, Boyd also stressed the need to change and innovate: "In a world where so much is in flux and so little can be predicted with certainty, Rotary cannot afford complacency. Challenges are constant; so are opportunities. Today, we need every Rotarian more than ever, because in our diversity lies our strength."

Sponsorships

Shellie Peterson announced that we have reached $41,000 of our $50,000 goal!

Global Grant for Niger

David Smith announced that we are about a year way from earning a global grant for science education in Niger. Remember that we have a twin Rotary club in Niamey, Niger. President Abdoulaye Dabougui and his wife Assamaou visited us last fall.

CDOT Update on U.S. 160 Construction

Meredith Greene shared a detailed update on the road construction downtown. Meredith and her colleague, Tracy Trulove, are the public information management officers for the project. They have moved to Pagosa for the next two years to interact with affected businesses, meet with town officials, keep the community informed of the project, answer questions, and respond to complaints. (Please be nice!)

Meredith said the construction will take place in two seasons over two years, with a break in winter: November 30 – February 28. They are currently working on the north side, limiting traffic to two lanes on the south side of 160. They hope to complete the north side by the end of April 2026. Then they will move traffic to the north side and the work to the south side. Work includes all concrete work, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, and ramps.

Of course, pedestrian safety is their primary concern. Please don’t jump the barriers into an active construction zone, Meredith pleaded! (Others have done so!)

GOT NEWS?
GOT A PROJECT?

Please let me know if you are planning a project and will ask members to join in. I would like to include it in this bulletin for those who may not be at a meeting to sign the clipboard. If you have a club announcement, please email Rob the details at least a couple of days in advance so he can get you on the agenda. flywaterrob@hotmail.com. While you’re at it, send it to me, too, and I can make sure it gets in this bulletin for members who may not be at the meeting.
