Guest Speaker: James Dickoff, Planning Department Director for Pagosa Springs, CO.
He gave us a review of what's new for 2017 and a comprehensive plan update for the town of Pagosa Springs. He stated that these plans come from a 13 member steering committee and several work sessions. He reviewed the recent projects that have been completed, projects that are in process and some future projects that are planned. Completed projects include improvements to Town Park and Yamaguchi Park, Sixth Street river walk, Hotsprings pedestrian bridge, construction of a geothermal greenhouse, the observation deck and gazebo along the riverwalk and the resurfacing of Trujillo road. Projects in progress or planned include San Juan Riverwalk extension from River Center to Town Park with a pedestrian bridge crossing the San Juan river near Highway 160, fishing dock and trail improvement at River Center, a river wave feature near Cotton Hole, a pump track at Yamaguchi Park, Overlook parking area deck replacement and expansion, resurfacing of Hot Springs Boulevard, complete South 8th Street repair and surfacing, complete the Safe Route to School sidewalk project from South 8th Street to Florida Street, the Rumbaugh Creek bridge restoration and replace the mural on Main Street. Mr Dickhoff explained that the McCabe Creek culvert project has been delayed due to funding but should go out for bidding late 2017 or early 2018. The Town to Pagosa Lakes trail will be completed in sections as funds are appropriated. He stated that the section between Aspen Drive and Pinion Causeway should be completed this fall.
Mr Dickoff encouraged public participation at work sessions to revamp the town's comprehensive plan and he gave several dates that have been scheduled. He stated that one way to find out more about the comprehensive plan and the meeting schedule is to sign up for e-notices on the town's website: www.townofpagosasprings.com. He fielded several question before ending his talk.
